With Scott Morrison being elevated to the Prime Minister of Australia, the person in charge of our country used to be directly responsible for refugees, including young children, being locked up in appalling conditions on Manus Island and Nauru.
With an election likely very close, it is incredibly important that the Australian Labor Party go to this election promising to change the current bipartisan approach on refugees.
Educators can be the front line of advocacy for young children. If you feel that your work in Australian early childhood education and care means you need to speak up, please join this campaign.
Your details will be added to a template letter that will individually printed and mailed to Bill Shorten and Opposition Immigration spokesperson Shayne Neumann.
A similar action was undertaken in 2016, with over 150 individual letters being mailed to Malcolm Turnbull.
Please note that to ensure the letters have their best effect and to ensure they are read, full names are needed and a contact email address.
The template letter can be viewed here. Your information will be entered in the parts highlighted RED. If you are unhappy with any part of the letter, please feel free to adapt and send one yourself.
Given how quickly things may change in the political environment, I will be closing this form on 31 August 2018 and organising the mailing.
Thank you for taking action.
